Titer Testing

This test determines your pet's immunity levels, ensuring they receive only the necessary vaccines.

When a pet is vaccinated, they have antibodies that protect against a specific disease. Titer testing helps us determine the concentration of a particular antibody in your pet. They are included in our comprehensive annual exam, which helps us assess their immunity. If you have questions about titer testing, please contact us at 519-661-0496.

What is titer testing?

We offer two types of titer testing, preventative care and international travel titers. Both tests give us an accurate antibody level with the help of a small blood sample. The test results are available a few weeks after it’s been administered. Depending on the results, we’ll determine if your pet needs vaccines or if they have adequate immunity against diseases. Vaccinations provide various levels of protection, and for some pets, this means higher or lower levels of immunity. This eliminates the need for continuous vaccinations without knowing if your pet is protected.

What types of vaccines do you perform the test for?

For our feline patients, titer testing is done for the following core vaccines:

  • Rabies
  • Feline Panleukopenia
  • Herpesvirus
  • Calicivirus

For our canine patients, they can be tested for their immunity against:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Infectious Hepatitis
