Like any major surgical procedure, spaying and neutering should be handled by an experienced and compassionate team who will take every precaution to ensure it’s a success. Our veterinary team will ensure the procedure meets the highest standards of care, including before, during and after your pet has undergone surgery. 

When should I spay or neuter my pet?

We recommend you meet with one of our veterinarians to discuss the best time for your pet to have the procedure. The procedure means removing the reproductive organs of male and female pets through an incision near the stomach or scrotum. For male pets, we remove their testicles, whereas for females, we remove their ovaries and uterus. Your pet is given anesthesia before the procedure to ensure their comfort. What should I expect on the day of my pet’s surgery?

Our surgeries are performed with the utmost attention to detail to ensure your pet has a thorough and safe procedure. If you’re unable to drop off your pet on the morning of their procedure, they can stay at our hospital the night before. You can expect they’ll receive a high level of care before and on the day of their surgery, including:

• Selection of your pet’s anesthetic drug based on their age, breed and medical history
• Pre-anesthetic bloodwork to assess if your pet has any underlying health issues  
• General anesthesia is administered through IV fluids 
• Experienced registered veterinary technicians monitor your pet’s blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate and depth of anesthetic
• Laser therapy is given post-surgery to speed up the healing process 
• Post-surgery follow-ups from our veterinary team via phone, which includes a detailed homecare plan
